Aviation history will roar back to life at the Greenville Downtown Airport (GMU) during Warbird Weekend Static Aviation Show, October 4-5, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. This event is free to attend and will feature rare historic aircraft, aviation displays, and family friendly activities in GMU’s Community Corridor. Planes of yesteryear are here today for the public to view for free or ride for a fee. This event is always a crowd pleaser.

The star of this year’s show is “Rosie’s Reply,” a World War II–era B-25 Mitchell bomber brought in by the Michigan Flight Museum. Greenville is one of the only East Coast stops for this legendary aircraft, offering the public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to book a ride in a combat-veteran bomber. Book flights: https://miflightmuseum.org/b-25-bomber/.

Rosie’s Reply has a combat record stretching back to World War II. Delivered in 1943, this bomber flew eight combat missions with the 12th Air Force over Italy and the Brenner Pass. The B-25 bomber was made famous in a surprise “Doolittle” raid on Japan only four months after the Pearl Harbor attack in Hawaii. It was the first- and only-time bombers were launched from an aircraft carrier.

“The Greenville Downtown Airport is proud to highlight aviation’s past while inspiring future generations,” said James Stephens, Airport Director. “Warbird Weekend is one of our favorite events, and we are excited to welcome Rosie’s Reply and so many community partners to GMU.”

We welcome any aviators with historic planes to fly in for the event. There will be numerous organizations there with amazing displays for the public:

  • Celebrate Freedom Foundation will bring a Cobra helicopter and a military Hunter Drone.
  • Warbird Adventures will bring a T6 Texan and Citabria for acrobatic instructional flights.
  • Greenville City Fire Department will bring the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Truck for display and is planning on demonstrations.
  • SC Army National Guard will display the iconic CH47, Chinook and the UH72, Lakota helicopters.
  • The Greenville Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and the Guns Garin Memorial Foundation will provide aviation education information.
  • Just Aircraft LLC will bring short take-off and landing (STOL) planes for a public demonstration and display.
  • There are other fantastic partners planning to participate.

About the Greenville Downtown Airport

The Greenville Downtown Airport is the busiest general aviation airport in South Carolina. GMU has served our community since 1928 and continues that service today. Our Community Corridor is a window for children and families to take in aviation at Runway Park, learn military history at the MHCC museum, or just play a round at Take Off Mini Golf.
